    Course Description

This module will begin with a review of brain development in the child’s first 5 years. We’ll identify structures of the brain, their function, and what we know about music’s impact on those structures.
Then we will take some time to discuss the role music plays in adult/child relationships through music-mediated attachment. A discussion of tonal and rhythm development in the first 5 years comes next, followed by a discussion of music in early learning centers. You’ll have a chance to respond to some questions about this information.
Finally, we’ll end this module with a short discussion of cultural considerations of music and dive into some questions that we all need to consider when choosing music for the early childhood music classrooms we serve.
